Attorney General Tong Urges U.S. Supreme Court to Halt Unconstitutional Texas Abortion Ban
Today, Attorney General William Tong joined a coalition of 24 attorneys general in urging the United States Supreme Court to stop Texas’ unconstitutional six-week abortion ban, Senate Bill 8 (S.B. 8), by vacating the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals’ stay of a District Court order blocking the ban from going into effect.

Attorney General William Tong has joined a coalition of 24 attorneys general in a court brief challenging the Texas six-week abortion ban as an unconstitutional effort to overturn nearly five decades of Supreme Court precedent. With additional states across the country seeking to impose additional barriers to safe access to reproductive healthcare, Attorney General Tong today was joined by Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, advocates, and legislators in vowing to continue the fight in every court in every state where access to abortion care is under attack.

Attorney General Tong Secures the Restoration of Public Safety Grants
Attorney General William Tong announced today that the Biden-Harris administration has rescinded unlawful immigration conditions previously placed on federal law enforcement funding to states including Connecticut. The decision will be applied retroactively, enabling Connecticut to retroactively collect $6.4 million in Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (Byrne-JAG) program funding previously blocked in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020.
