Attorney General Tong Opposes Plan to Gut Federal Nutrition Standards for School Meals
Attorney General William Tong joined a multistate coalition of 20 attorneys general opposing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) proposed rollbacks of nutrition standards for school meals. In comments filed with the USDA, the coalition argues that the proposed rule substantially weakens existing standards for the school meals that tens of millions of children rely on every day and lacks any sound basis in nutrition science.

Attorney General Tong, DSS Commissioner Gifford Announce $200,000 Settlement and Suspension Agreement with East Hartford Behavioral Health Providers, Resolving False Claims Act Lawsuit
Attorney General William Tong and Connecticut Department of Social Services Commissioner Deidre S. Gifford announced today that an East Hartford company and its owner have agreed to pay $200,000, and will be suspended from participating in the Connecticut Medical Assistance Program (CMAP) for a period of five years, for allegedly engaging in a systematic and persistent pattern of submitting false claims to the CMAP, which includes the state's Medicaid program.

Attorney General Tong Announces PURA Has Granted Emergency Moratorium on Utility Shut Offs
Attorney General William Tong announced today that the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority has granted an emergency moratorium on electric, natural gas, and water utility shut-offs in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The Office of the Attorney General filed a formal petition Thursday seeking to cease all utility service terminations for a 30 day period subject to renewal to ensure all residents may safely remain home during the epidemic.

Attorney General Tong Files Lawsuit Challenging Trump Administration’s Reckless Rollback of National Clean Car Standards
Attorney General William Tong today joined a multistate coalition filing a lawsuit challenging the Trump Administration’s disastrous final rule rolling back the national Clean Car Standards. The previous standards required appropriate and feasible improvements in fuel economy and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars and light trucks. Since their introduction in 2010, these standards have saved consumers money, reduced harmful emissions, and helped protect the health of our communities. The Trump Administration’s misguided Safer Affordable Fuel-Efficient Vehicles (SAFE) rule stops this progress in its tracks, hurting the economy and public health at a time when the country can least afford it. In the lawsuit, the coalition will argue that the final rule unlawfully violates the Clean Air Act, the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, and the Administrative Procedure Act.
