As boaters begin to prepare for the July 4th holiday weekend, law enforcement officers across Connecticut will be on heightened alert looking for those violating boating under the influence laws.
7/18/2020 Elevated Levels of Ozone for Western and Coastal Connecticut Over the July 18th Weekend
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is expecting several days of very warm weather, which will contribute to elevated ozone levels across parts of Connecticut. These levels may approach or exceed Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) levels for western Connecticut, on Sunday, July 19, 2020. The impacted area includes western Connecticut as far inland as Cornwall and along the coast from Greenwich to Madison.

12/22/2023 2024 Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation Stamp Art Competition Welcomes Entries through March 15, 2024
(HARTFORD) — Entries are now being accepted for the 2024 Connecticut Migratory Bird Conservation Stamp Art Competition. This annual competition, which seeks creative young artists and art educators in Connecticut, is coordinated and sponsored by the Connecticut Waterfowl Association in cooperation with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). The competition is part of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) environmental education program known as the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Conservation and Design Program.
7/18/2023 DEEP Announces Free Swimming Lesson Program in Partnership with Boys Girls Club of New Britain
(New Britain, CT) – Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (“DEEP”) Commissioner Katie Dykes joined local and state elected officials, and Boys & Girls Club of New Britain (BGCNB) leaders today to announce $250,000 to fund free swimming lessons to qualifying children at the BGCNB pool deck. The partnership with the BGCNB will enable children 17 and under to receive free swim lessons at the facility’s pool.
7/9/2019 Environmental Conservation Police Make Arrest in After Witnesses Report Man Brandishing Firearm from Vessel
Officers with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation (Encon) Police on Sunday arrested Matthew Graillat, 32, of East Haddam, on charges of Threatening in the First Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree following an incident on July 5th on the Connecticut River in East Haddam in which witnesses reported that he pointed a firearm towards other boaters.

9/20/2017 DEEP and CAES Discover an Established Population of Lone Star Ticks Along Coastal Connecticut
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) report that a heavy population of the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum, has been detected at Manresa Island (former Norwalk Harbor Station) in South Norwalk, Connecticut, marking the first known established reproducing population in the State.
