Frequently asked questions

Understand common questions about discrimination complaints and next steps.

Start a discrimination complaint

Discrimination complaints must be filed with CHRO within 300 days of the alleged discriminatory act. You can file a notarized complaint directly with one of CHRO's regional offices. If you need help drafting your complaint, CHRO provides an intake service. A CHRO representative will meet with you to discuss your allegations and help you draft a complaint to be filed with CHRO.

Importantly, contacting the CHRO, completing the online inquiry form, or meeting with an Intake Officer does not constitute the filing of a formal complaint for purposes of the 300-day deadline. Get started as soon as possible.

Is your complaint notarized and ready to file with CHRO? If yes, file it directly with one of our Regional Offices.

If your complaint is not ready to file yet and you need CHRO’s help drafting it, fill out the inquiry form below.
