    The U.S. Department of Agriculture today announced over $405,000 in funding awarded to Connecticut through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program (SCBGP). Through this program, the Connecticut Department of Agriculture (CT DoAg) will fund projects that strengthen Connecticut’s specialty crop industry through marketing, education, and research.

  • 8/21/2024 CT DoAg Releases Guidance for CT Grown for CT Kids Grant Program

    The Connecticut Department of Agriculture is pleased to release Connecticut Grown for Connecticut Kids (CTG4CTK) Grant program guidance for fiscal year 2025. New this year are unique application opening dates and deadlines divided into microgrants and full grants. Microgrant applications for projects requesting up to $5,000 over a 12-month duration are now open for Tracks 1 through 4 and are due by 12:00 p.m. on September 18, 2024.

In fact, it began on a pheasant hunting trip with friends following his time with the US Marine Corps. Jared McCool, owner of Steadfast Farms and Steadfast Farms Poultry Processing and Slaughter in Bethlehem was named Connecticut’s Outstanding Young Farmer during Ag Day at the Capitol in Hartford on March 20, 2024.

  • 3/12/2024 Update on Connecticut Horse Confirmed Positive for Equine Infectious Anemia

    HARTFORD, CT – Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s State Veterinarian Dr. Jane Lewis, DVM, MSFS, DACVPM, confirms that the Windham County horse which was confirmed positive for Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) on March 7, 2024, has been humanely euthanized. The other horses on the property remain under quarantine and will be undergoing EIA testing at regular intervals.

The diagnosis was confirmed by the National Veterinary Services Laboratories (NVSL) on March 7, 2024.
