CT Greenways Council Presents 20th Annual Greenways Awards
The Connecticut Greenways Council today commended eight individuals, and two non-profit organizations that have made significant contributions to the promotion, development and enhancement of Greenways – linear open space in Connecticut – and designated a new State Greenway at a ceremony this morning at Stratton Brook State Park in Simsbury, CT.

Local School Children Help with Fish Stocking at Hartford’s Keney Park in Preparation for Opening Day
This morning Deputy Commissioner Susan Whalen of CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) joined local school students from Prince Technical High School at Keney Park in Hartford where they stocked the lake with trout in preparation for the opening day of fishing this Saturday.

DEEP Reminds State Park Visitors to Maintain Safe Distance from Beach Nesting Birds
In addition to asking people to maintain proper social distancing in the outdoors, and to adhere to state park capacity limits and closures where encountered, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is reminding visitors to state parks to maintain a safe distance from the wildlife that call those parks home.

DEEP Announces up to $767,000 in Federal Grant Funds Available for Clean Vehicle Projects
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced the availability of up to $767,000 in federal funds for grants to local and state governments, as well as businesses and organizations, who want to replace large, older diesel engines with electric vehicle equivalents or newer, cleaner-burning engines.

DEEP Announces More Than $980,000 in Grants for Marine Sewage Disposal Facilities for the 2024 Boating Season
(HARTFORD) — The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that 30 marine pumpout facilities will receive $980,982 in funding for the 2024 boating season under DEEP’s annual Federal Clean Vessel Act (CVA) program. This program is an effort to improve water quality in Connecticut’s navigable waterways by providing federally funded matching grants for qualifying projects that provide boat sewage disposal facilities, more commonly known as pumpouts.

DEEP Requesting Applications for $15M in Available Materials Management Infrastructure Grant Funding
(HARTFORD, CT) —The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce $15 million dollars in grant funds available to Connecticut municipalities, councils of government, and regional waste authorities to support the development of materials management infrastructure (MMI) at the local and regional level in direct response to the solid waste disposal crisis that Connecticut municipalities are facing.

Governor Malloy Proclaims July 15-16 as the Second Annual Connecticut Clean, Drain, Dry Weekend
Connecticut will mark its second Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Weekend on July 15-16 – as part of an effort to encourage boaters and others to take all steps necessary to prevent the spread of invasive plants and animals. Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is partnering with the Candlewood Lake Authority, and the Connecticut Federation of Lakes to promote this weekend.

$4M Marsh Restoration Project Launches in Stratford
Stratford, CT (October 25, 2021) – Connecticut’s coastline is getting an exciting refresh: After years of planning and fundraising, ground is being broken at Great Meadows Marsh, a Globally Important Bird Area, and part of the Stewart B. McKinney National Wildlife Refuge. On November 1, construction will officially begin to restore up to 33 acres of salt marsh and other important coastal habitat.
