  (HARTFORD) - A new advisory council is being formed to advise the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) on current and historic environmental injustice, pollution reduction, energy equity, climate change mitigation and resiliency, health disparities, and racial inequity.

  The State Mosquito Management Program announced today that mosquitoes trapped in two eastern Connecticut Towns: Hampton and Voluntown have tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus.

• 10/12/2017 Life Jackets Increase Chances of Surviving Boating Accidents Especially as Waters Cool in Fall

  Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reminds all boaters that from October 1 – May 31, Connecticut law requires anyone using a manually propelled vessel – such as a kayak, canoe, stand up paddleboard or rowboat – to wear a proper fitting life jacket at all times.

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is pleased to announce the winners of the Youth Fishing Passport Fishing Challenge. Noah Savin (Middlebury) landed 17 of the 21 species, while Emmett Dougherty (Coventry) caught 16, Kiera Mullen (Coventry) 14, and Zakk Wallace (Stratford) 13. Each receive a prize pack with a fishing rod and reel, tackle; the Freshwater Fishes of CT and Lakes and Ponds of Connecticut books; and a Fish CT hat.

• 4/8/2022 Connecticut DPH Issues Advisory For Fish Caught In The Hockanum River

  HARTFORD, Conn.--The Connecticut Department of Public Health and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection today are issuing a consumption advisory for fish caught in the Hockanum River. This consumption advisory is based on elevated levels of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) in fish tissue samples collected from the Hockanum River in Vernon.

A full range of fun, outdoor winter activities for the entire family will be happening on Saturday, February 5, 2022, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event is a partnership between DEEP’s No Child Left Inside® and Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) programs plus the City of Torrington.

• 8/5/2022 DEEP Announces Emergency Closure to Fishing Near Tributaries to the West Branch Farmington and Farmington Rivers

  (HARTFORD)—Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that effective August 6, 2022, it is closing short sections of the West Branch Farmington River and the Farmington River to fishing because the hot weather is creating unhealthy water temperatures for trout. DEEP is also augmenting the low release levels on the Farmington with an additional 50 cubic feet per second (CFS) of flow from the DEEP fisheries reserves to improve water conditions for fish health.
