  The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is now accepting competitive grant proposals for the federal Clean Vessel Act (CVA) program for the 2022 boating season.

• 9/23/2021 DEEP, DRS, and DCP Remind Wholesalers, Retailers, and Consumers of Surcharge on Miniature Alcohol Bottles That Takes Effect Oct. 1

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Department of Revenue Services (DRS) and Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) remind liquor wholesalers, retailers, and consumers of a five-cent surcharge on miniature alcohol bottles, known as “nips,” that goes into effect Oct. 1.

• 6/10/2021 DEEP Re-imposes Alcohol Ban for 6 Recreation Areas

  (HARTFORD, CT) – The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has re-imposed temporary alcohol bans for six state recreation areas. These bans are in effect immediately and until August 25, 2021, at the following locations:

• 11/19/2021 DEEP Accepting Proposals for Grants to Address Nonpoint Source (NPS) Pollution Until Dec. 22

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is now accepting proposals for grants to address nonpoint sources of pollution to Connecticut’s waterways under DEEP’s 319 Nonpoint Source (NPS) Grant Program.

• 11/29/2021 DEEP Announces New Proposed Regulations For Whelk, Horseshoe Crab, Lobster, and Striped Bass

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has announced intent to modify regulations governing fisheries for whelk, horseshoe crab, lobster, and striped bass. The proposed regulatory changes are intended to address the depleted state of these ecologically and economically important species in Long Island Sound.

• 12/22/2021 DEEP Announces Award of $12.7 Million in Volkswagen Settlement Funds For 43 New Electric School Buses in Environmental Justice Communities

  (HARTFORD)—The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that the State of Connecticut is making available $12.7 million from the legal settlement in the Volkswagen (VW) Corporation emissions cheating scandal to fund five electric projects in the state, all in environmental justice communities.

  (HARTFORD)— Given the significant rainfall that has occurred due to Storm Ida, many areas across the state have experienced discharges of untreated sewage.

• 1/13/2021 Emerald Ash Borer No Longer Regulated by the USDA

  New Haven, CT - The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announce that the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) will no longer be regulated by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).

• 8/6/2021 Eighty Eighth Anniversary Celebration of the Civilian Conservation Corps Reunion to be Held August 8

  (NEW HAVEN) – This month, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, coordinating with federal, local, and commercial partners, facilitated the removal of two derelict barges posing a navigational and environmental threat to the waters and mariners around New Haven.

  (HARTFORD)— The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and the RecycleCT Foundation are pleased to announce more than $150,000 in grants awarded to local municipalities and organizations in the inaugural grant round of the Lee Sawyer Community Waste Reduction & Recycling Grant program, which supports waste reduction and reuse in addition to recycling and composting efforts.

• 1/15/2021 Governor’s Council on Climate Change Finalizes Near-Term Climate Strategies

  (HARTFORD) – The Governor’s Council on Climate Change (GC3) today issued its Phase 1 Report, Taking Action on Climate Change and Building a More Resilient Connecticut for All, which assesses the state’s progress toward mitigating carbon emissions and addressing climate change adaptation and resilience, and outlines 61 near-term strategies to meet these challenges.​
