DEEP Announces Measures to Protect Shorebirds at Coastal Beaches and Wading Birds at Offshore Islands
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) today announced that Charles Island in Milford and Duck Island in Westbrook will be closed to the public from now through September 9, 2019 to prevent disturbances to nesting birds.

DEEP Completes 2019 Channel Catfish Stockings
Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) announced today that Channel Catfish, one of the most sought after freshwater game fish species in the country, were stocked into nineteen (19) water bodies located throughout Connecticut (see list of locations below) on Tuesday, May 21, 2019.

DEEP Kicks-Off a Comprehensive Review of Connecticut’s Water Quality Standards
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is conducting its triennial review of Connecticut’s Water Quality Standards to determine if revisions are necessary. DEEP is requesting the public’s input regarding the current standards, and recommendations on what to focus on, as part of the 2019 review.

DEEP Statement on Fire at Silver Sands State Park
On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at approximately 10:43 p.m., the Milford Fire Department as well as State Environmental Conservation (EnCon) Police and other agencies responded to Silver Sands State Park to a report of a structure fire involving three buildings that were under construction.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection to host public meeting on Sleeping Giant State Park master planning efforts
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 in Hamden to discuss future restoration plans for Sleeping Giant State Park. The public meeting is part of a “mini-master planning” effort to restore and enhance sections of the park seriously damaged in a 2018 tornado and macro burst storm.
