The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) hosts The Connecticut Building Officials Association (CBOA)/Connecticut Fire Marshals Association (CFMA) Conference, which provides training on code-related topics that are timely and relevant to both groups.

Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) Online Training
Starting in 2017, The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) will provide online code training for building and fire officials, and design and trades professionals. For individuals credentialed through OEDM, completion of our online training will count toward your continuing education credit hours.

Code Training and Education Fund Board of Control
The Code Training and Education Board of Control approves the fiscal year budget of the Office of Education and Data Management OEDM), which carries out the credentialing functions of the Office of the State Building Inspector and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

List of Fire Marshals by Jurisdiction
The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) maintains a list of Fire Marshals currently appointed to each jurisdiction. The list is in alphabetical order by the name of the municipality.

National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS), Fire Data Reports and Incident Counts
The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) is responsible for maintaining Connecticut's statistics for the U.S. Fire Administration’s (USFA) database for the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS). The NFIRS data provides fire information at the local, state and national levels, and assists fire service agencies and public officials in identifying fire-related problems and trends.

Building Code Enforcement Officials and Fire Officials are required to earn continuing education credits to maintain their license or certification. The number of credits needed is based on the credential. All training cycles are three-years in length.

How to Become a Certified Fire Official
To become a certified Fire Code Inspector or a certified Fire Investigator, you can either take a training course or take an examination.

Connecticut Burn Injury Reporting
The Office of Education and Data Management (OEDM) administers Connecticut burn injury reporting on behalf of the State Fire Marshal. C.G.S.19a-510a requires all attending physicians, administrators of Healthcare Institutions, their designee or any other Healthcare provider, to report specific treated burn injuries.
