What we do and how to contact us

The Board of Firearms Permit Examiners (BFPE) reviews appeals about firearm permits in Connecticut. We help people who were denied a permit or had a permit revoked.

We review each case to check if the original decision followed state law. We examine the facts and apply the law to reach a fair outcome.

Understand our role and legal authority

The Board follows state law and reviews appeals on firearm permits. These resources explain the laws behind its work and how decisions are made.

Appeal authority under state law

Connecticut General Statutes (C.G.S) § 29-32b establishes BFPE and outlines its authority. It allows the Board to hear appeals and review decisions.

Firearms laws and regulations

These laws explain how permits are issued, renewed, or revoked. They also explain how the Board reviews appeal cases.

How we review appeal cases

The Board has eight members appointed by the Governor. Members come from public safety, legal, and community organizations.

We review each appeal to check if a permit denial or revocation followed state law. The staff examines the facts, applies the law, and issues a decision based on the case record. Each case is reviewed in detail to reach a fair outcome. Our role is limited to appeals, and we act only within the authority set by state law.
