CTDOT Plans for the 2026 Pavement Preservation Project in various towns in Connecticut

7/31/2025

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT is developing plans for the Pavement Preservation Project for the 2026 construction season, in Burlington, Kent, Plainville and New Britain.

The project locations are described below:

  • Route 69 in Burlington, beginning at the Bristol/Burlington town line (Mile Point 30.75) and ending at the intersection of Route 4 (Spielman Highway) (Mile Point 35.16)
  • Route 827 in Kent, beginning at the New Milford/Kent town line (Mile Point 0.00) and ending at the intersection of Route 341 (Segar Mountain Road) (Mile Point 3.44)
  • I-84 in Waterbury, beginning under the bridge carrying Washington Street over I-84 (Eastbound & Westbound - Mile Point 33.71) and ending approximately 0.22 miles east of the bridge carrying Austin Road over I-84 (Eastbound Mile Point 36.86, Westbound Mile Point 36.95
  • Route 72 in New Britain and Plainville, beginning in Plainville at the intersection of E Main Street and Forestville Avenue (EB Mile Point 0.17, WB Mile Point 0.11) and ending in New Britain at the Route 9 Interchange (EB Mile Point 6.37, WB Mile Point 6.31)

This project involves applying either an asphalt rubber chip seal treatment or an ultra-thin bonded overlay where applicable. Sidewalk curb ramps are also being evaluated to meet ADA compliance as part of this project. The purpose of this project is to preserve and maintain the condition of the pavement, bringing it to a good state of repair. This project will help the CTDOT achieve Transportation Asset Management Plan (TAMP) goals, through pavement preservation treatments that extend the overall pavement life and improve pavement performance.

The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in August 2025, with construction anticipated to start in the spring of 2026, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, receipt of any required right-of-way, and environmental permits.  This project will be undertaken with one hundred percent (100%) State funds.

It is the CTDOT's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken and important that the community share its concerns with the CTDOT to assist in the project's development.

If anyone has any questions or comments on this project, please contact Sebastian Cannamela, Principal Engineer, at (860) 594-2698 or by email at Sebastian.Cannamela@ct.gov.  Please refer to State Project No. 0174-0485.
